Peer Counseling Services provides emotional and educational support to persons with disabilities by staff who themselves are peers and can relate with having a disability. DCRC’s Peer Counseling Services are cross-disability in nature. The Peer Counselor begins by working with the member to assess the member’s current situation, level of independence and the impact the disability has on self-esteem and their relationships with family, friends and the community. Ongoing sessions explore the member’s feelings, attitudes and values that facilitate or impede the member from attaining independence.
