Need shelter, food, transportation?
The specialists in the Information and Referral (I and R) program provide prompt, current data over the phone and in the mail about disability-related community resources to people with disabilities and their families, social service providers and others in the community. Among the requests from telephone callers are information about disability-related services and products, disability-specific magazines and publications and resource and reference materials about adaptive equipment, home modifications and accessibility. As the percentage of the population living in poverty in Los Angeles increases, more callers are experiencing housing and financial crises. The I and R Specialists are knowledgeable about community resources that provide everything from financial assistance, emergency shelter and transitional housing to food, clothing and free medical care. The I and R Specialists are bilingual, providing services in English and Spanish.
